1. Acceptance of Terms

By using NotebookLM, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you are using NotebookLM on behalf of an organisation, you agree to these Terms on behalf of that organisation and confirm that you have the authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms at any time without prior notice. Your continued use of the service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

2. Description of Service

NotebookLM is an AI research assistant and smart note-taking tool that allows users to:

• Upload and import documents, PDFs, web URLs, YouTube videos, audio files, and other materials
• Ask questions and receive answers based solely on uploaded source materials with citations
• Generate AI podcasts (Audio Overviews) from uploaded content
• Conduct deep research and generate comprehensive research reports
• Create multimodal outputs including Slide Decks, infographics, mind maps, quizzes, and flashcards
• Export content in various formats including PDF, DOCX, PPTX, CSV, JSON, PNG, and SVG

The service is provided "as is" and "as available".

3. User Accounts

3.1 Account Registration

To use NotebookLM, you must sign in with a valid Google Account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account.

3.2 Account Security

You agree to:

• Notify us immediately of any unauthorised use of your account
• Ensure that you sign out of your account at the end of each session
• Use the service in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations

3.3 Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms, is harmful to other users, or is otherwise inappropriate.

4. User Content and Responsibilities

4.1 Ownership of Content

You retain full ownership of all content you upload to NotebookLM, including documents, files, text, and other materials. We do not claim ownership of your content.

4.2 License to Use Content

By uploading content to NotebookLM, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to:

• Process, store, and analyse your content solely to provide the services you request
• Generate outputs based on your content (summaries, podcasts, reports, etc.)
• Improve the service in an anonymised and aggregated manner

4.3 User Responsibilities

You are solely responsible for:

• Ensuring that you have the right to upload and use any content you provide
• The accuracy, legality, and appropriateness of your content
• Complying with all applicable laws and regulations regarding your content
• Not uploading content that is illegal, defamatory, infringing, or harmful

4.4 Prohibited Content

You agree not to upload or transmit:

• Content that infringes on intellectual property rights of others
• Illegal, obscene, defamatory, or threatening content
• Malicious code, viruses, or other harmful software
• Content that violates the privacy or rights of others
• Content that could be considered discriminatory or hateful

6.1 Our Intellectual Property

All content, features, and functionality of the NotebookLM website, including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, icons, and software, are the property of NotebookLM or its licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

6.2 Your Intellectual Property

You retain all rights to your uploaded content. However, by using the service, you grant us the limited rights described in Section 4.2.

6.3 Generated Content

Outputs generated by NotebookLM based on your content (summaries, podcasts, reports, etc.) are provided for your use. You are responsible for reviewing and verifying the accuracy of any generated content before using it.

7.1 No Warranty

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT ANY WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

7.2 Accuracy of Information

While we strive to provide accurate and reliable outputs, NotebookLM is an AI-powered tool and may not always be accurate, complete, or up-to-date. You should independently verify any information before relying on it. We are not responsible for any errors or omissions in the content or for any actions taken based on the content.

7.3 AI-Generated Content

NotebookLM's AI capabilities are based on the content you upload. The quality and accuracy of outputs depend on the quality of the source materials you provide. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of any AI-generated content.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NOTEBOOKLM AND ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Loss of profits, revenue, or data
• Loss of business or reputation
• Damages resulting from the use or inability to use the service
• Damages resulting from reliance on any information obtained from the service
• Unauthorised access to or alteration of your transmissions or data

IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU EXCEED THE AMOUNT PAID BY YOU, IF ANY, FOR ACCESSING THE SERVICE DURING THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRIOR TO THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE LIABILITY.

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless NotebookLM and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or relating to:

• Your use of the service
• Your violation of these Terms
• Your violation of any rights of another party
• Your uploaded content

NotebookLM may integrate with or link to third-party services, including:

• Google Account: For authentication and sign-in
• Google Cloud Platform: For AI processing and data storage
• Analytics services: For usage analysis

We are not responsible for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party services. Your use of third-party services is subject to their respective terms and policies.

11. Service Availability and Modifications

11.1 Availability

We strive to keep the service available and functional. However, we do not guarantee uninterrupted access to the service. We may need to perform maintenance, updates, or repairs that could result in temporary downtime.

14. Dispute Resolution

14.1 Informal Resolution

Before filing a formal claim, you agree to try to resolve any dispute informally by contacting us at legal@notebooklm.link. We will attempt to resolve the dispute within 30 days of receiving your notice.

14.2 Binding Arbitration

If we cannot resolve the dispute informally, any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with applicable arbitration rules, rather than in court, where permitted by law.

15. Miscellaneous

15.1 Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and NotebookLM regarding the use of the service.

15.2 Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.

15.3 Waiver

Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not be deemed a waiver of such right or provision.

15.4 Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms or any of your rights or obligations under them without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms freely.

15.5 No Agency

Nothing in these Terms creates any agency, partnership, joint venture, or employment relationship between you and NotebookLM.
